I need help figuring out why my mower will not crank, it turns over when you turn the key but it will not start. I even tried starter fluid. It did crank before but it had the same problem with the engine turning over for a long time and draining the battery. Alternator and starter is fine on the unit. I do not know what to do. It's on a Jacobsen hr-5111

I don't quite understand. You say it won't crank then you say it won't start.
Two very different problems. If it is cranking - is it cranking over fast or real slow? Does it have a compression release on the engine? Where are you spraying the starter fluid?

I'm confused by that too. You need to make sure your getting diesel to the motor and that you don't have air in the lines. Did you happen to run out of fuel? I had a similar problem on mine and found out that my fuel pump was bad.

loosen the hard lines at the injectors, turn the engine over with the starter and see if you've got fuel up there.

but if it wouldn't start even with starting fluid, you may wanna do a compression test.
did it have good power before this problem popped up?
