I tested Shaw's 23-0-8 with Dimension .13 percent, on my neighbor's low-quality non-irrigated vacant lot. I weighed out enough for 500 sqft and applied with a hand-held spreader. Because of the unusually warm spring some crabgrass had already sprouted. We had a light frost April 29. Eight weeks of hot and dry in mid-summer. Results:

    Dimension on April 12....Heavy crabgrass
    Dimension on May 1......Few crabgrass
Dimension on May 12.... Medium crabgrass
    Untreated....................Heavy crabgrass

May first appeared to be the best date for crabgrass treatment this year. The year was not typical.

What was your experience regarding dates and results?

As stated earlier not a fan of prem fert mix, never had good results.
Second, I found sprays work better when applied in split apps.
Third I like to get it down earlier than the germination date by about 1 month... so late March or early April in your area.
