What would be a fair discount for friends and family? I normally charge $50/hr for labor and 30% markup on plant material.

I do not work for family/friends/neighbors. Life is much simplier if you don't.

for family I do the work if I can, and tell them to give me what they want. This way, I am not disappointed, and they get a good deal. Our family is always helping each other, so I am assured I'll get help in some other way when I need it, so I am not worried too much about the money.
trying to keep it strictly business with family in my opinion is very hard.

I take care of my 2 sisters properties. I don't ask to be paid and I don't expect to get paid. What goes around, comes around.
