Do you charge extra for ditches?

I just gave out a quote and really I have to charge more for her ditch. Only way I can see cutting it is with a push mower and a weed eater, and that's going to cost me extra time.

If it were a ditch I could get my walk behind into, maybe I wouldn't ask extra. But this ditch is really steep.

Just figure it into your overall price. Ditches don't take that long once your good with a trimmer.

yeah it depends on how much trimming is needed...almost every house i cut has some sort of ditch trimming needed. some are just around the pipes that go under the driveway and other yards are all the way down the whole side of the yard and on 3 sides of the yard and very steep lol...you can make good money on those kind of yards because alot of people aren't willing to do it. it's not that hard you just have to take your time and do it at a steady pace. get the scything action going...i hope i spelled that right lol...i usually go up one side of the ditch then back down the other...if it's a small ditch you can walk right down the middle swinging the trimmer left and right in a curving motion following the contour of the ditch.

That seems super safe with the discharge pointing directly at the guys face and him staring straight back at it haha

I charge a little extra for really steep ditches that have to be completely trimmed and I tell the customer why its more when I give my quote. They have all completely understood the extra $5 -$15 charge but most of my customers have done their own lawns at some point in the past and already know what a pita it is.

    Pike,
Yes, charge extra for ditches.........shuffle it into the overall total per cut or for twice a month whichever you do.
I don't care how good you are with a line trimmer, the swaying motion of doing ditches is hell on your back and hips. Anyone who has been doing this line of work more than 5 years will chime in. After 19 years for me, I feel every inch of all of the ditch banks I have cut in my time. I have a 25' X 300' ditch to cut once a month. It is brutal.

Nah. It has the deflector that points down and back on it. The tire on the Dixie does get dirty though. :)
