Dixie Chopper Gearbox?

    The "hydro" fluid is just regular engine oil.

    I see about your other points though. I hadn't heard of these problems but I'm sure someone had them or Dixie wouldn't have changed the system.

    The reason I could think of is if there is a major hydro pump or wheel motor failure, all of that crap in the oil could get into the T gear box because that is not filtered.

    The fleet mowers...the mowers that run 8 to 10 hrs a day..year after year..experienced these problems..
    I converted a few flatlanders to the conventional gear oil setup and they stopped eating pumps and wheelmotors..
    Coincedence..???......perhaps....
    Just my observations...

    I added the overflow tanks to my machines, a little pricey but worth it. Mine all use gear lube, sealed t-boxes. Before I added the tanks I would check them at every oil change, or 50hrs. Most of the time they were just a bit low.

    I have a flat lander that leaks between the tbox and the pumps, is this a fairly simple repair, it seems to be the o ring between the tbox and pumps. Also is the conversion to conventional gear oil set up something you would do for me.

    If the leak is between the pump and the Tbox...replacing the orings might fix the leak...there are also gaskets between the Tbox and the aluminum mounting plates....
    Is it an easy fix .???...it might go easy.??
    As far as converting it to gear oil instead of feeding fluid from the hydrotank...it prolly wouldn't hurt anything...

    Your post seems to imply that you want me to personally perform this repair...???
    I have a real job....thanx anyway....

    Thanks for the fast reply. Seems like you know of problems I might run into, can you give me a few pointers to help me out. Dealers here leave things undone so I am better off doing it myself.
    I know cutting grass sucks but I do consider it a real job. It let me spend a lot of time with my boys growing up, one of which is in Afghanistan know!

    I would just change the orings..
    I'm guessing you have 2 hoses from the hydrotank to the Tbox...
    Get a piece of 3/8 hose and connect the 2 barbs on the hydrotank...bypassing the Tbox..
    Put an oildrain bucket under the Tbox before you start..as any fluid in the Tbox will be on the ground when you remove the pumps.
    Disconnect the control rods to the pumps...
    Remove the 9/16 nuts that hold the pumps to the Tbox..
    Do not remove any hoses from the pumps...
    Replace 1 oring at a time...wiggle the pump till it releases from the tbox..
    Pull the pump out far enough to RNR the oring... replace the oring.
    slide the pump back into the tbox...you may have to slightly move the top gear. In the tbox to get the gears to mesh...
    Do both sides...bolt it back together...add gearoil to the tbox until it is above the pump shaft...
