I have a chance to buy a used 2004 DC Flatlander. For some unknown reason it has a new 27hp Kohler engine. The guy (who bought it from a bank) said he has put $400 of work in to it. Is this a bad sign? It has new blades and bearings. Its a 60" cut and hes asking 5400 for it. Is it worth it?

No absolutely not. Its hard enough to buy good used equipment, to buy one with a couple of question marks. And the price is to high. Just move on. If you are willing to spend
5400 then I would suggest a new mower. Warranty etc.
