Do you let engine cool before turning it off?

I hardly ever turn it off except for long drives between work. Has anyone ever checked the temp. of fan cooled engines as they idle down after mowing?

yes i do, :blob1: i always let my mower engines run at idle for
several minutes after running wide open cutting grass with my
turf tiger and walkbehind. or any engines that have been running
hard. also let your diesel engines cool the same way they'll last
    longer. :D

I have never checked the temp, but the fins are how the engine cools.
I always try to let my machine cool down after a long run (especially in the summer).

Run the machine higher than idle though. I run mine about half throttle which pulls more air over the engine.

After running onto the trailer, I drop my r's to half throttle, secure the chains and kill it (25hp Kohler) --- no cool down time. I've always done it like that and never have had any problems with it for 700 hours.

  5. On a Kohler you got to so it wont pop when you shut it off.

I always let them cool down. Let them sit for a few minutes.

I have 26hp efi Kohler. I let it idle for a minute or so then shut it off at idle. Never backfires.

I always let my Yanmar diesel cool down while I tie down the mower. It usually takes about two minutes for the temp guage to drop below 170°.

I let mine cool down before I shut it off. It will backfire if you don't, either when you turn it off or on, or both! When I get it on the trailer, I let it run while I get the tie-downs on, then I shut it off. I usually let it warm up 3-5 minutes before cutting while I'm getting everything ready to go.
