This is my fourth year, and I've never prepared for winter before. I just enjoy the money in the summer, then winter is terrible. So for the first time I'm paying off winter bills. I am pretty excited to see how much better this is going to make me feel in the winter! Anyone else do this? What goal do you set as far as a date to have all the winter bills paid off?

bills aren't the problem. the problem is taxes are due before we start to make any money again next year.

it doesn't matter how much money you make. it's never enough come winter time. you could have a million dollars in the bank and you would still barely make it through the winter.

I can usually do some work up till Christmas, Janurary is dead, and Feburary inst a whole lot better.

    Last winter was a Diaster.

I do save for winter, but its looking like a real slow summer because of lack of rain.

x2 I should prepay more bills through the winter months but I haven't done it yet, this year I want to prepare for the winter months....usually we get enough snow for me to pay all my bills through the whole winter and my fall clean up money gets me through.

Yes, last winter was a train wreck. Think that's why I'm so motivated to be better prepared for this next winter.

the problem this year was a late start. didnt' get started until april. most years i start in march so i only have to go jan and feb without any money coming in. nov and dec it slows down but i still get to do some leaf jobs and so forth. mid march through the end of october is normal mowing season. few years ago started mowing in mid feb and that was nice.

And every year right around now I start thinking about winter because these last few months seem to fly by for some reason.

By the time thanksgiving comes along my mortgage , truck payment ins are all paid till May. Also try to pre pay utility bills. All checks under $100 go in a savings account and try to go into winter with $10-12k.
