I am not interested in starting a plowing business, but I am adding residential snow shoveling services and salting. How do you all charge?

I do, seems like everyone in the town I service will plow but not shovel. So I get quite a bit of our business from this. I mainly charge a flat rate each time I go out, except for the schools (they want an hourly rate). Whatever you charge just make sure you cover your costs first, and secondly, make it WORTH YOUR TIME. It is not fun being out there in -20 degree weather with the wind blowing.

I would just be careful how many accounts you take. I've been down that road and it really sucks if you get pounded. Yeah the 4-6'' are no problem but if you are trying to shovel snow like for example suring a winter like last year, you will die.
