so, having only mowed my own yard, but thinking about getting into the biz i'm wondering if anyone goes without a blower. i'm thinking if you line trim and mow, then the final pass with the mower could be over the sidewalk/driveway/road and the trimmings will just get blown off. does anyone do this? or am i just crazy?

Yes definitely crazy (no offense). you NEED a blower most definitely.
Maybe 1 out of 10 lawns you could get away with it, depending upon the growth, but providing a lawn service to a customer without a blower is like a roofer working without a ladder.

The only yards I can get away with it have rock driveways and virtually no sidewalk. Blowers are well under $100 at Sears. If your not wanting to be serious at least get something to get grass off of walks and drives. Your customers will thank you.

I guess that would depend upon what types of properties he will be servicing. For small props, 3,000sq ft or less, I use the handheld. Anything bigger with those long driveways, I will use the backpack. Having both to choose from is nice.

you could do that if you are looking to kick up rocks and ruin your mower, or take out a customer's window:rolleyes:. I honestly think you would be shooting yourself in the foot not to have at least a hand-held.

Get a blower. I cant work without it, leaving a property with clippings and stuff on the driveway, or sidewalks bugs the crap out of me. I'm a perfectionist when it comes to getting things lookin good.

We have a NGK plant by us that brings guys from Japan for 3 years. They rent homes and a lot of them are in my hood. Most will just have the lawncare done but a few want to experience the American dream of Lawn Work.
Watched the one on my block cut the grass with his new mower and than take the box that the mower came in and fan the grass off the drive. Was pretty funny. The home owner(landlord) lives next to me and was very concerned for his property and lawn:D
