I have two trucks that both have GVW above 10,000lbs.

What DOT#s to I need? and where do I get them?

It looks like I can get both a NY State # and a Federal #. I only do work in NY

I believe they are the same number. You just put "NY" after the fed # to be a state #. You can apply online, but I don't recall the site address.

The first site isn't what your looking for but I just had it so I am sharing maybe it will help someone else out. It will let you know of all permits and tax id's you need for NYS depending on service providing.

    Thanks for the info

I found out i definitely do not want to deal with all of the paper work associated with a fed #.

    thanks again

On the NY state site, you might need a certificate to collect state tax from customers and a nursery permit if you transport and sell plants. The state of NY is on the Fed DOT lists of states requiring DOT numbers on vehicles, even for intrastate commerce, might need additional info if you are in Pesticides and carry hazmat materials in your vehicles. New applicants have to maintain a safe record including roadside inspections for 18 months to get permanent DOT numbers. The numbers have an online account and anybody could look up the rating for your business. plowking
