Driveway Compactor

    I have a driveway coming up and am going to do a 12" base. What compactor shoulr I rent .. Vibratory or roller .. ? What make do you guys use for heavy compaction rate ? Thanks all

    I did estimates on 2 driveways this year. I always priced in rental for a 48 or 60in vibatory roller. They rented for like 250-275 a day i belive.

    Do a search on "compactors" and there was a good comparison debate going on between rollers and plates a little while back. Personally, I would rent the biggest plate compactor I could find somewhere in the 12-14K range. You can do 6"-8" lifts with ease and it is nice piece of mind especially for a driveway. They rent in the 100-200/day range.

    We use the 1,100 pound diesel plate compactors. Compacting in 10" lifts. When the brick is laid the 12" nails we use for our restraint edge get bent at times! $150 a day to rent, 18,000 to buy:dizzy:
