I am renting a dump trailer for leaf cleanup this year, which is making things very easy on me for dropping off leaves at the compost center in town. The problem is it's costing a bit for the trailer rental. Not crazy $$ but enough that over time will make more sense to buy a dump trailer of my own. Problem is, I will never have a need to use a dump trailer for the majority of the year. I don't do more than 2 or 3 mulch jobs a year, and don't do landscaping where I'd need a dump trailer to transport dirt or other supplies. If I used it as a mower trailer, it would drive up fuel costs. And I really don't want to get into the whole renting out a trailer business on the side. I know that over the course of a couple years the trailer will pay for itself, but I'm having a hard time justifying the purchase of a trailer that's going to sit around collecting dust 5 out of 7 months per year. So I need alternatives. A dump truck right now isn't feasible either, so I don't want to put a dump bed on a truck. The best solution, imo, would be a dump frame without the body. I could use it as a regular trailer for lawns and then build the sides for leaf season. We don't usually go over 2000 lbs or so per load so I don't really need solid metal sides (or even a floor). I've found kits for adding a frame and hydro lift on a trailer, and that's a possibility. But really it would be best if I could find a flat bed dump trailer that I could build off of, or a dump trailer frame (with hydraulics) to build off of. So the question is, does anyone know of a company that builds something like that? Or does anyone have any suggestions for my situation? Thanks.
