someone from our FD just went out and bought a brand new 3500 duramax dually! It is one sharp looking truck! He uses it to haul a 5th wheel trailer.

It sounds like you are looking for a GM product but if a crew cab Ford with a short bed would work look at Gary Force Toyota.com. i noticed you live in Tenn. Bowling Green Ky. may be close to you.
Gary Force Toyota has a white F350 4x4 that looks really nice.

You can convert a single rear wheel truck to duals for about under $1000. Check out a gm truck specific forum. I have seen guys do it over at Cumminsforum a few times. Dodge mega cab short bed 3500 came with duals :)

is the GVWR the same with SRW as it is with DRW? He doesn't want a dually pickup bed because he claims he'll just tear the fenders off of it. I swear he's about as finicky as any woman I've ever met

DRW gives you slightly higher I don't know how much. The Ram Mega Cab DRW have very small fenders compared to most DRW

Ford makes them... not sure why honestly though, we have an 06 crew cab, works but i always wish i had the extra foot of bed space honestly. It would come in handy in so many ways, plus your back wheels/axle are so darn close to the cab, "empty" it rides like a sob in the back seat.
