This unit runs crappy (lower rpm's, slight surging) when in the normal position. When shifted to it's side (90 degrees) the rpm's pick up and it runs fine. Any help will be appreciated. The pruner is about 2 years old and has had little use. Gas is fresh

Check your fuel filter and fuel line in the tank. I seen this happen once with a string trimmer and it was the filter and hose in the tank.

Thanks for the help. Actually, the problem turned out to be the "insulator" which is the part under the carb. I installed it incorrectly. There is a very small hole in it which got blocked when put back together in the wrong position. It is very difficult to see this hole.
