I had a guy quit who was a %$#$ good worker. He is a Mexican guy who I really liked. I guess he is going to get more $$ elsewhere.

Sorry, but I can't pay that much especially if you dont have a drivers license or speak english.

    Life goes on.

    Just curious,

How much were you paying him?

Were you witholding social security and wage taxes?

Were you paying time and a half for hours over 40?

He probably left you to work for the same money with a competing LCO that illegally classifies employees as sub-contractors. Makes a huge difference. I'm tempted to classify my employee as a sub-contractor. I'm reasonably certain I could get away with it. I'd save a lot of money and he'd take home a lot more.

As I've said before, whether it's the state comptroller, the Texas workforce commission, the Texas Department of Agriculture, the state pest control board, the IRS or the department of labor, they simply don't seem to care about the lawlessness that they know exists within the green industry. They're going to focus their time and efforts on the big tax bills, not the small ones. Even if a competitor turned you in to one of these pathetic organizations on a known violation, I doubt you'd even get a phone call.

I've had an ad in the phone book for close to 9 months now. 140,000 copies on the street. Not a single call from the TDA. Not a single call from the comptroller. Not that I ever expected to get one, but it goes to show how pathetic the enforcement of our laws is.

It amazes me how some people want to come over and work and become legal, but then turn around and b!tch about something like having taxes withheld.

I'm sure you'll find another good employee down the road, the bad thing is it may take a couple lazy ones before you find the good one.

funny thing is this guy was claiming 5 on his w-4 form. His year to date withholdings on FICA had not even added up to .25 cents.

New guy started yesterday. Didn't miss a beat
