I think so. I work for a property managment company in Victoria Texas and my boss sent me a 1099. Its like a W-2 only I have to pay ALL the taxes. Speaking of taxes I need to hurry up and file. And speaking of 1099, I need to find where I put it.

If I was an employee and the boss called me back for temp work which is not under the table, he would wish he hadn't.

Not an employee per se, however a contract employee - yes.
There are certain IRS rules/guidelines assocciated with this, they are very strict, and change from year to year.
