20HP Kolher puffs out smoke when I first start it. Anyone know way this happens. It's the 20 HP Command Engine. Thanks for your response. Mowman

The way it was explained to me is a small amount of oil vapor that gets past the valve guides is the cause of this.

Rings or head gasket problems makes them smoke at all times, not just at start up. Sounds like the typical Valve Guide thing to me. It's nothing to worry about. My old Chopper has smoked when starting up for 3,000 hours now, but I don't need to add oil between changes, so it isn't a big deal. You should see my diesel smoke when I start it!! :) It even knocks :)
