Saturday I am going to a local Exmark Dealer, and getting a Lazer HP 48inch 20hp kohler. My question is is this engine strong enough to cut thick grass, how does it cut at top speeds? I dont want to have to go 2 mph, to cut thick grass!

Please help me out in making a decision!

    Thanks, Ryan

I'm not sure if your getting a walk behind or a rider. I had a walk behind 48 with a 15 horse Kohler, and it was great. I had plenty of power. However I have a 17 horse Kawaski on my 54 walk behind, and its not enough power.

I have a 25 horse on my 62 inch rider and it seems to be fine.

    my 2 cents

It is a rider zero turn mower!

I'd say get as many horses as you can. I've got a 17kaw on a 48 hydro walk (exmark) Gator blades too. Works weel enough, still have to double cut and blow chunks in the spring on a weekly schedule.

That is a good mower. If I could get it in the kawi I would, but it will serve you well even with the kohler.

20 hp on a 48" deck is plenty of power...Z or WB.

You should have plenty of power, and if you have to go through some thick stuff you might just have to double cut anyway.

If you are looking at a full size lazer the smallest deck you can get
is 52". If you are looking at the 48" deck, you will have to go with
the lazer hp. I have a 48" lazer z hp and love it. You may want to
consider the 21hp Kawi. engine. I don't have trouble with speed
just the usual clumps and double cutting in the spring, but I get
that with my full size 60" 27hp too.
Anyway, 48" lhp is a great mower, should serve you well
