They do not allow the gas to come out as fast as the ones with the vents. I like them for my two stroke stuff with small gas tanks but do not for my main mower.

I see it as the inevitable result of a sue-happy nation, because where the imagination is the limit in a lawsuit, forced safety is the result, and I dislike the entire process.
If they are really concerned about safety why don't they mandate a bigger gas cap on 21's? It is hard to see when you are approaching full and it results in some spilling and waste.
I also hate the new cans. If a person is too stupid to safely pour gas, then they're sure as hell too stupid to be operating the equipment they're putting it into.
I use the Justrite metal "safety cans" with a flexible metal spout. They have a handle which opens a valve allowing gas to flow out the nozzel, and it flows fast, at the same time it opens a vent so there is no "pumping" . They are costly, somewhere around $70 per can , Goggle justrite safety cans or look at justritemfg.com for a better description than I can give.
I store about 30 gal of gas for a large portable generator in an enclosed shed during the winter and when I purchased cans it was safety over cost, considering I have about $20,000 worth of generator and lawn equipment alone there, not considering some woodworking tools ect.
I have five gal, 2.5 and 1 gal cans in same configuration, and have to admitt the 1 gal is very tricky to use fillin small 2 cycle equipment.

I actually think honda just made bigger gas caps on their 21 inch tanks, don't know about any other brands? Its still hard to slow the new cans down, it is so much easier with the old ones!
someone had a new product to sell and pitched it to the correct person and made a killing, they do suck and dont pour in a timely manor, and just as you get a trimmer about full it burps and pours on the ground, and with out a vent in the summer they blow up like a balloon, hence the word vent!!!
I spill the most gas with safety cans. They work fine with mowers but since they require 2 hand operation you're out of hands to hold onto a weedwacker when you're filling it. On more than one occasion the weedwacker's rolled over spilling gas and making a nice mess. Only good thing is I never fill it over grass. As for the new plastic cans, I think they suck too, and I drilled and tapped a hole in it and put a bolt in it to keep the water out and the gas in.
These are the best cans left on the market. IMO of course. I just picked up 2 more 5 gallon cans and will slowly get more as time permits. They are banned in 14 states already and soon enough, they will be banned everywhere.
If they want gas on the ground, make me use BLITZ cans, I may as well just pour the first gallon on the ground and then I can get the rest in with good control.

When I fill up my Scag, with the big gas caps, I take off the entire hose assembly from the gas can and just pour directly from the can to the tank. I rest the can on the lip of the tank to prevent static buildup.
If you hate the new cans, wait 'til they ban incandescent light bulbs and FORCE you to use compact flourescents. Wait 'til you have to go to a government assigned doctor...
i lucked out, i saw 4-5 gallon old style at a columbus dealer asked how many they had 24 so i bought them all. for $11.18 each and yes i hate the new ones. and no i'am keeping these
I wasn't aware that the new design of cans was for safety. I thought it was to contain the gas vapors within the can went not in use. Hence, the reason for no vent spout or the fill spout that self seals. My two cents.
