i recently had my two trucks buffed and the guy who did it for me inquired on what it would cost to reseed his front yard.the size of the yard is roughly 50ft long by 30ft deep.the grass is in really poor condition, bare spots, crabgrass, etc.what would be the best plan to do this yard?rototill, level, starter fertilize, seed, and straw?
how much should i charge for this job?i try to average $40/hr.any input would be appreciated!

Tilling will just bury weed seeds. Glyphosate at least twice and then use a slit seeder with starter fert. Soil sample of course but, you will still need starter fert and water of course.
Pointless tidbit: In my area, it takes 4 tons of lime per acre to raise the ph 1 point.

I dont know in your zone but you only have until ± May 15 to interseed.

    1) Make sure there is not a pre-m barrier put down on that lawn already. If there is postpone seeding until early fall.
    2) Interseed by means of slit seed
    3) Put starter fert. down (13-13-13 works excellent. Check application rates and spreader settings)
    4) Get the client to keep it damp for the next few weeks (1/4 of water early morning every day or as needed)

Do not mow and bag those seeded areas for at least 2 weeks - if you have to then mulch it with a push mower. Dont go over it with your Z!
Do not put any fert. or weed control down until at least after the 3rd mowing.

I do this at an average of ± $40 per 1000 sq ft and this is a good money maker.

the customer actually wants to completely redo the entire lawn.would a bobcat with a rockhound do a good job?

Why not just sod it since it's such a small area?
