So I have an Exmark 48" Metro, model number M4515KA, with the Kawisaki 15hp engine.

This issue started towards last fall. When I had the engine running, I'd come to a stop. Turn off the blade, and put the gear in neutral. I'd then let go of the safety lever, and the mower would act like either its still in gear or the blade is still engaged, causing it to die.

Now when I go to start the engine again, it won't start. I try moving the gear from neutral to reverse and back, or neutral to first and back, and pushing the blade engage forward and then back. Trying to see if one of those is causing the mower not to start.

Eventually it will realize the blade is not engaged, and it is in neutral, and it will start. So my guess is that something needs to be adjusted with the gear level?

Has anyone had this issue before? Or have any ideas what I should check?

    Thanks

This a belt drive unit ? If so there is a neutral safety switch on top of the trans axle, that has either gone bad or is sticking and not working.

Yeah this is a belt drive. Is this switch something thats inside of the gearbox?

Well I put both of the wires together to close the circuit on the neutral switch and it started right up. So that is the thing that needs to be replaced! Thanks for the tip. (dont worry, i'll be replacing the part and putting the wires back to normal, safety first!)
