Exmark Lazer Z, motor went south last summer and been sitting. My question is, would it be better to rebuild motor or buy another. Kawasaki 23hp,Motor broke a rod.

New motor $1700 vs. Rebuild $1000

I would put in a new one and sell the old one and let them rebuild it.

How many hours on that kawasaki before it went out? I say a new motor would be in order.

Chances are the rod took out the camshaft or governor journals within the block, so a rebuild is unlikely anways. Rebuilds are not for motors with thown rods. Replace with new.

It all depends on the guy doing the work.....
I've seen my share of "hacks" that through their own ignorance, butcher more parts than
they fix when "rebuilding" an engine. They usually charge more too.....
The safe bet is a new engine with a 2 year warranty.....beats the "30 feet or 30 seconds" warranty....
