I am now in my third year in the lawn business. Recently I have been thinking about the best way to look at expenses and overhead. In my first two years these were figured by the job, but this year I am changing over to look at them by the hour.

Which way do you look at your expenses and overhead?

It seems to me looking at these things by the hour would be better because smaller jobs would carry less of the burden and larger jobs would carry more.

By the job my overhead runs about $22.00 and by the hour around $11.00. These are the figures I came up with for mowing customers and do not include any materials cost (applications, etc.) Any materials needed are added to the above figures.

Do you guys think my figures are high? What does your overhead run?

I know the best way to lower my overhead and I am working towards this goal.

    More Jobs = Less Overhead
