I started my official mowing business 1 year ago. I have always mowed a few yards on the side since I was a kid. Would it be ok for me to count my previous side mowing as experience and advertise that I have 16 years of experience rather than the one year I have had my official business?

I say NO, if a prospective clients ask for references you can tell them about those clients but you should get permission from those references. Permission is a must if your giving out addresses and/or phone numbers.

How many lawns did you mow each season for those 16 seasons?

You were mowing an apartment complex without a license and insurance??? Im assuming your good friends with the person who owns it.

    I'd use 5 years.

Honestly doubt anyone will really care to be honest with you. I Dont advertise XX years of experience

Had insurance had to for the apartments. Never had a license till last year. I was never asked about one. I also did a subdivision for a home owners association and was never asked about a license. I have permission from most to use as references. Most of what I do is residential

    I wouldn't advertise it.

When asked, just tell people the truth and you can't go wrong.

Depends. Do your properties look like you have 16 years experience? Does your business operate like you have 16 years experience?

Aslong as you don't refer to the company as "doing business for 16 years" why wouldn't your use your experience to your benefit???
"Over ten years experience" or whatever... nothing wrong with that!
