The pros are 50,000 miles.......that seems like a pretty good price also.....cons are spark plug blowing issue with that year......I know from experience......You can always offer less but that might not be a bad price if he is firm

If it's an automatic you may want to due some trans mods. I believe that truck has a 4R100 trans. Not a bad trans but will turn to **** when worked hard. Have a local shop flush the system, including draining the torque convertor. Replace fluid with a good full synthetic trans fluid. If it doesn't have a trans cooler have them add one, they are inexpensive good protection. Finally ask them to install a shift kit. This will raise the line pressures and stiffen up the shifts. I have the Factory Tech shift kit in mine. In shouldn't cost you a whole lot for all of this especially if you have a garage/trans shop you trust.

I bought an 02 F-350 Lariat supercab 4x4 with the V-10 for $22k with 36k miles. Not to far from what you are looking at I bought this truck a year ago however...is yours 4x4?

Have you checked the oil pan on it? I know on some of the 99's and 00's they can rust out.

check the bottoms of the doors too for rust/rot, under the rubber strip. my 2000 was a VT truck and is rotting out, look it over good.

A BTS valve body will make that trans last longer. They are about $250.

Don't forget that on top of the trans, and the spark plug problem that a good deal of both the 5.4 and the 4.6 have excessive oil leakage at the pass side head gasket (Cylinder #4 pass side back near the firewall), as well as exhuast manifold stud failure which is heavily personified on commercial units. Not all of the production run suffered these problems but it is something to check for prior to laying out cash. Ford SD's are great trucks however you might want to check out other avenues if this truck even hints at having these problems. The 7.3's are a lot better suited for this chassis and are basically bullet proof. The oil leakage problem can run just under $2,000 to repair and the manifold bolts can run up to $900 for drilling, taping and replacement. For more info try visiting www.thedieselstop.com. They offer info on gas and diesel fords that are very useful for the second hand purchaser. Good luck.
