f250 necessary?

    soon to start small landscape/lawn service. about to purchase new Exmark 44" Z rider ( not cheap but you guys recommend buying the most productive equip you can afford...and I've heard that everywhere...I can afford it). most jobs 1/2 acre min with some medium sized commercial accts. also have Honda 21" commercial and 6 x 14 dual axle with one axle elec brakes...misc hand tools are Echo and Stihl. heard often that going with less than a 3/4 ton (like f250) is a mistake in the short and long run....
    what's your opinion on truck power needed? thanks much...will not plow...dont want to wear out the vehicle

    not really.. depends on if you are getting the extra cab or club cab. 4wd, short bed... might be harder to manuver in tight areas but if you ever expand and get a larger trailer or need a bigger truck, you already have it.

    gonna go with the 4700 dollar powerstroke option? i love those trucks. i want an ext cab 4wd offroad package with the 'stroke. one day....

    a ford f150 wouldnt have any problems pulling a 14' trailer loaded with equipment, problems however will come when u wanna fill it up with dirt etc etc, also isnt the best for plowing, however it can be done. in my opinion for a mowing only operation a ford f-150 4x4 is fine. when u get into light landscaping definitly get the 250. i love the powerstrokes, nothing like a big f-250 4x4 powerstroke ext cab long bed hd with big tires!!:cool:

    I say if you can afford it, go for the F-250. When I started out 7 years ago, I had a Ford F-150 4X4. I wore it out in a couple of years. I'm now running a Ford F-350 with the 7.3 Power Stroke. What a beauty!

    If my GMC Sonoma 1/4 ton can handle topsoil, crush rock, mulch ect. Than a F- 150 will do fine. By the way my truck has an extra leaf on each side. Im going Chevy 2500 with a 350 vortec soon, but not getting rid of my little Sonoma shes too good of a friend!

    Do the 3/4 ton. I used to run a Ranger Ugh Always was stressed to the limit. Then I did a 1/2 ton chevy. It didn't take long before it was maxed out. Finally brightened up and got the 3/4 ton
    (f 250) and it has never been maxed and I never even worry about it. It has been a huge peace of mind.

    I'm not a mechanic, and don't know the whyfors, but the F-150 w/ a straight 6 cylinder will outpull a 250 w/ a 302 V-8, and possibly even the 351 V-8. That engine also lasts a very looong time!!

    For me, starting off with a f150 4x4 was a mistake. I did alot of heavy pullin'. I blew the transmission in a short time. Now I have a 99 f250 powerstroke, & this thing is invincible. It'll pull or carry just about anything. If you can get a 250 or 350, get it. You'll be happy you did.

    Bigger is always better but I will state I run both F150 and E250s with the 4.9L 6 cyc GREAT MOTOR. not too fast for heavy footed workers. Less wear on drivetrain.
    I plow and pull a 18ft trailer with 1 ton of fert.
    Ones a 93 with 149,000 and the others 1989 with 180,000 have had to do a engines in both but i will admit I'm not the best oil changer

    I ditto what turfdude and some of the others said. For the set-up you have, an F150 will be plenty. I use a 84 F150 and a 90 F150. Both pull 6x10's w/ lazer 44". When we are out and have to load up lots of debris - F150 can do!

    My 84 has 182,000 miles and is my main crew truck. (the 90 actually only has 60k on it) Its used for the 2nd crew during peak season and a backup this time of year.
