Im new to diesel' s so not sure where to start with trouble shooting. I have a 2001 f350 1ton with a 7.3 and the last few weeks it has been running very sluggish.I use fuel treatment for cold weather. It has a five speed manual and I rarely get out of fourth gear. Any ideas on what's going on? Thanks

Head over to http://www.ford-trucks.com/ and post your question there. Not saying nobody here can help you but its kind of what they do over there.

Don't use cheap filters. Pay the price & get OEM filters.

Filters and oil first its the easiest and least costly. Is it running rough and low on power? If so it could possibly be an injector. You can always get a shop or a buddy if you have one that has a fancy scanner and they can do a buzz test on the injectors to see if one is getting weak or shot all together

If not fuel filter, they are known to have injector plugs to come loose. The newer motors have a problem with o-rings leaking with the HPOP.

How many miles? Turbo gone bad?

My '96 turbo Eclipse had a bad electric idle motor that controlled a butterfly (choke??) in the intake. Talk about sluggish - it misbehaved at all speeds turning my sportscar into a non-turbo-spooling turd. Just before I got it fixed a young lady on her cellphone ran a redlight and t-boned/totaled it.
