I am wondering what you guys htink is too late to lay sod for the fall season. Our temps right now are mid 50's, although I do not know the soil temps. Can I lay sod now and get it to grow in the roots before the winter. We have a good month or so before snow cover, but will the lower temps affect the rooting that much that the sod wont survive?

there are guys here who rake snow off the soil and lay sod. you will be fine. it may go dormat before roots grow, but you will be fine as long as they water in the spring.

Heck yeah, you're fine! Just don't try to force anything with fertilizer containing nitrogen this late, or look for something with very little N and high phosphorus, like a 6-24-12.

We lay it year-round down here , even when it is dormant - but I wouldn't fertilize until spring .
