Farming Section on Lawn Site?

    Anyone on here own/run a farm? How do I start a farm as far as the legal side? What is the minimum acreage? I am in NY.

    Me and dad farm a little bit. I think it would be nearly impossible to start from scratch. Land around here is getting a minimum of 1200 an acre for junk ground and up to 2500 for good stuff. I would need to farm around 800 acres to do it full time. You could always rent ground too but with that you gotta make the rent payment whether you have a crop or not. This year a lot of guys in my area lost many acres of corn and beans due to drought.

    I just want to do the minimum amount for the tax breaks, and my dad is a wholesale produce company so I dont have to worry about sales. I could just double purpose all the landscape equipment over to that as needed. Keep help busy. Etc. I found online, its a 7 acre minimum and $10,000 gross sales minimum. Not bad, was hoping it was more like 3 or 4 acres though.

    Where online did you find out about the 7 acre and $10000 minimum? on what website was it?
