I have always used my social for my tax number, but it seems like the more i grow and the more i mess with subbing things out , that i should probably get the federal i.d. # Also, I was wandering what you other guys out there were charging as a markup for jobs that you sub out, I have been doing 10 percent. A few other people have told me to go with 20 %. : [

If you are operating as a sole prop you will use your social security number. If you incorporate or become a llc then you will be required to get a fed tax id #. Hope this helps.

You can be a sole propeitor with no employees and get a fed id. When I started i got one cause i knew i would need one eventually and why not its free. saves you less hassle later. Just get one and use it. Why not?
