My friend bought the Ferris 3100 with the Kawasaki 37 hp DFI engine. I've not had any experience with this engine, and have not seen any information posted on LawnSite concerning power and fuel economy, so this will give me a chance to get first hand information.

He cut with the mower for a short time yesterday, and has cut several yards today. He has some rougher properties, and as myself is no longer a young man. He told me after cutting some of his properties he felt like his kidneys had been jarred out of position, and it was very hard on his back.

He has been sending me a few pictures along, and I talked with him a few minutes ago to ask a few questions. He told me the ride was by far superior, as I told him it would be, he also said he was very impressed with the starting and response of the 37 DFI, we will definitely be getting some very close fuel usage numbers.

He cuts his Zoysia with the JD reel mower, the one in the photo, and to have really top notch manicured Zoysia lawn, it should be cut very short with a reel mower. He told me it takes a specialist to sharpen the blades on a reel mower, and he says this is a $240 job twice each year.

Thats a sweet looking machine!!! Those who claim the 3100 is not built as well are full of it.

Definitely a nice mower but for the price would probably go with the Cheetah...

Very nice. Does your friend cut any lawns bellow 2.5"? I find the deck is inaccurate below this height, yet to figure out why. But would be interested to hear what he thinks if he cuts that low.

For eg Im using the 1.5" setting to cut areas I used to cut @ 2.5 with other ZTRs & its still not as low. On any other machine at that height you would be scalping everywhere.

That thing is nice!! It ought to be a beast with that big engine and a 61" deck. I take it that the red switch is a rocker switch to toggle the throttle settings up and down in increments?

From memory when I asked Williams lcm it was just a toggle for idle or wot. But that couldn't be right, would need to have half throttle for engaging blades.

I thought I had read on here in the past that the switch had 3-4 positions- full idle, medium low idle, medium high idle and WOT. Not sure on that though.

What's up with the amber light? Thought only diesels had them... Man that's like some limited edition model or something...
