Id say the engine manufacturer has/owns the technology. Any mower company that offers the engine in their mowers will come up with their own name.

No, I'm not saying that. Only that I thought I remembered reading somewhere on here earlier this year that there was a few detents in the switch. The RED is all computer controlled throttle set by the switch position. there's more than that to it obviously, but still, a lot different than just having a few detent settings on a rocker switch.

We spent a long time with an Exmark engineer this spring at our local open house. He gave me a ton of inside scoop on upcoming features that will be offered with the RED system if I agreed to keep my pie hole shut about it. I agreed, but it doesn't matter anyway, because I can't remember hardly any of it anyway. They just didn't want to overwhelm everyone by offering all the technology all at once.

Not according the the engineer we talked with GMLC. He said that it is Exmark's exclusive property and well protected by patents. The RED computer system is totally separate from the engine other than controlling the throttle etc.

That's just weird.. I never saw another mower with that switch like that...

Much the same principal as fly by wire in a car.

But considerably different to the RED technology as far as I believe.

Really!!! Good to know. I would have thought it was all engine control technology and Exmark just owns the term RED. We should be finding out soon enough if other company's have the same engine and throttle control.

What else is RED technology besides fly by wire throttle control with different RPM settings?

I don't know the details much. But the toggle switch on Ferris is just a flybywire for a DFI engine, no different to a throttle on a carb as you know.

I thought the RED tech would be still using higher fan speeds at low rpms etc in order to be cutting grass slower, amongst other things. EFI can utilise different map programs etc cant it? whereby DFI is just on one map. I probably have this all wrong. time to go mow some grass
