Well, my family and I left today for vacation... It's the first one I've taken in 3 years and I've been scared to death. I've got good guys that's worked for me for years, but I guess just the anxiety of not being there. I only called about 3 times today to check in and got the "yes mother, we brushed our teeth...." type of sarcasm....

Hopefully this will be a good week coming up, I'm definitely wore out and I'm hoping this week recharges me, as much as chasing a 8 and 3 year old around will allow!

I'm the wrong guy to comment on your post, but.........
Really try to enjoy you family. My youngest is fourteen now and I will tell you honestly that I missed way to much of my three daughters childhoods because I am always way to concerned about what's going on with the guys and business. What I'm saying is that your business will be there when you get back but those young ones will joy be this age once. Enjoy them !! Have a great vacation.

Ya, my oldest is 8 and I missed every little league game this year. It does suck, but they do understand. My dad was the type that worked a full time and part time job just so we could have that really nice vacation during the summer, but that was the only time I would get to see him during the year. He regrets it now, and hopefully I won't get that bad.

I've been solo with a summer helper for the last 8 years and this is my first with a crew. I have vacationed in the last but would leave on a Thursday after work and come home on Sunday. I was also a single guy.

I've been married for about 1.5 years and took my first official vacation leaving on a Tuesday morning and coming home Sunday. It was nerve racking but I enjoyed it. I checked in every day with my crew leader and we even talked a couple of extra times when he ran into problems.

Now I have a kid on the way and hope I can grow and continue to take some time off I then summer for vacations.

Having a family really changes your business philosophy.

Tellem you'll talk to them when you get back...I ditched all the call in work in favor of contract work and never looked back...got two kids younger than yours ...if they need immediate mowing, send your crew over...relax, your work will be there when you get back

two of them were for lot clearing... can't turn those down, one time jobs that are good money. The other one I told them I would try to get a guy to schedule a drive by to price them.

I was 5 years into the business when I took my first real vacation. Went out west to hunt. Where we were located, we only had cell service in the middle of a small town street. It was nice to get away for 10 days without any worries. Because, you can't do much to help out when your 800 miles away. Ejoy your vacation. The problems will be there when you get back.
