From 2005 to 2011, I was a partner in a full service landscape company. In that time we grew our business from $250,000 to over $1 million in annual sales. We did many things right and reinvented a whole bunch of wheels. My no compete agreement is ending soon and I am in the initial stages of starting a new business. After selling my share of the company, I used my experience to create a 21-day program for improving landscape management businesses. I am considering advertising the program in Lawn & Landscape Magazine. Before I do, I would like to get the opinions of 4 to 6 owners from around the country. The program is called Fix Your Business on the Toilet and primarily consists of reading a 5 minute lesson each day. After each lesson, there are detailed action steps that take another 30 minutes or so to implement. The action steps include all needed forms such as; a property inspection form, a truck and equipment checklist, and job descriptions. The lessons each week cover time management, customer service, quality, efficiency, marketing, personal growth, and rest. The first week focuses on daily actions to improve specific areas of a business. The second includes weekly actions that will help better manage a business as a whole. The final week introduces steps to begin developing a plan for the future. I would like to have a group of 4 to 6 owners, representing different areas of the country, who will commit to going through the program and giving me their honest feedback. I am looking for owners of 1 or 2 crew companies who need to spend less time on a mower and more time working on their businesses, and owners of 2 or 3 crew companies who need to start turning over some responsibility to a key employee. Please let me know if you are interested. I would like to select a group by next Friday, so I can email PDF copies of the program and we can get started on the 23rd.
