We just hired a tree guy, his only job will be to trim trees and shrubs. I called about WC and the guy I talked to said I won't be able to find anyone to insure him...he said I'd have to go to the state insurance??? Very expensive, he claims probably around 40% of his yearly earnings. I tried to reach several other people but didn't have any luck...getting information was like pulling teeth! I'll go at it again on Monday...in the meantime, does anyone know anything about this? Appreciate any feedback.

We sub out all of our large trees (requiring climbing) to Tree Service Companies. It is a higher liability & risk business. If you hired someone that will be assigned to trimming your regular accounts with no climbing, I would consider them a crew member and not a tree guy.

That's a good approach gelawns. I have the same issue and I never thought about doing it that way. It's just general labor, unless he's climbing the trees regularly right?
