Has anyone used free soil samples as a foot in the door(a foot on the yard) approach to selling customers fert apps. If so how did it work for you?

Impractical. It would be cheaper to just take a margin out for a free fert. application.

I charge 40.00 for soil tests and recommendations. I do use it to sell additional fertilizer applications. If you give it away customers will think it is worth nothing .

We use to offer as a promotion for new sales until the state (MD) made it manditory every three years.(Nutrient mgmt./Save the "Bay")

With the states record keeping, inspections and the hassle, we now charge $25.00 for test and written report.

As a promotional sales tool and for upselling of additional applications it didn't pay.
