I have to winterize a few dozen 2-inch Febco 825Y reduced pressure zone backflow preventers (BFPs). The employer's budget will allow either (1) installing a proper, resilient-seated shutoff valve and drain system (this is absent right now) on the inlet piping; or (2) electric power to the BFP enclosures so heat tape may be used. I know both should be done. But the employer has said, "We can afford only one for this winter. Which is the better bet for both the short and long terms?"
