I ran my Scag WB with a mulch plate and regular blades for a year now and it mulches fine. My new scag tiger cat has the same setup but it leaves that strip of clippings on each pass. The mulch kit is over $300.00. Have you guys run a mulch plate with gator blades before? Did it get rid of the strip of clipping?

Also, do gators bog down the mower at all? A lot of leaves falling these days.

I mulched all of these up and bagged it all with my Tiger Cub using Gator high lift mulching blades. I haven't cut grass with them let. I hope they leave a nice finish cut or I'll have to put the OEM blades back on.

I put Gators(well, exmarks version of Gators),but really the same thing, and I didnt have the mulch kit, but i did have a blocking plate on the discharge, and I did not notice ANY difference whatsoever! The cut was the same as the OEM blades and it didnt do any better or worse chewing up leaves. Although some on here will say they notice a huge difference, so maybe it just depends on the mower? Also maybe they work good on only certain types of leaves and grass?

I have some gator like blades. In the fall I run them as doubles with no mulch kit, but have a OCDC. Mow the lawn once closed and then again with the discharge open. Does a very nice job as long as I dont get too far behind.

The cut is real nice as well.

I doubt that the gator blades will eliminate the strip of grass that you are getting next to the chute blocker. I do believe, however, that gators will help to make the debris in that strip smaller. You are going to get that stripe with just about any mower that doesn't have a mulching kit on it. The discharge decks (no mulching kit) are designed to move clippings through the deck and out the discharge. So when you put a chute blocker of any sort over the discharge opening, the clippings will stop at that point and fall to the ground creating that strip of debris.

I did what you are talking about for 5 years (mulching plate and gator blades). Up until this year I bought the hurricane mulching system for my 48" (tiger cub and I honestly don't now what I did with out the thing. I highly recommend the kit, it does a night and day difference!
Pm me if you have any questions about the thing even how to install.
