A bit off topic, but I know there's alot of members here with GM trucks that they use for hauling trailers, etc.

Just wondering if anyone has experienced this problem?

It is occurring on some 1999-2002 GM Vortec 3.1, 3.4, 4.8, 5.3, 5.7(LS1), 6.0 & 8.1 Liter engines. I'm curious because I just purchased a GMC Sierra Denali with a 6.0 V8 (no problems yet) and now I've been reading some things on the internet regarding this problem. It's kind of scary because GM isn't stepping up to the plate and fixing their potential defect.

    Thanks,
    D. Tom

I have a 99 Chevy rack dump with the 5.7 gas motor. I've also heard the nightmare stories but never had a problem with this truck. We really load it up and tow a trailer with it, too. Knock on wood....Mike

You should have bought a Dodge:D

Just kidding but I use to sell Chevy's and the problem I always had with them is that when they did have a problem they would deny that it existed until "The word was out" and then they would find a cure.

Good company and not bad product but sometimes it seems that they will slowwalk a problem and hope it will just go away.

It's a beauty of a truck. 4 wheel steering is awesome. Just hope the engine doesn't give me troubles.

6.0 2000 in 3/4 ton Silverado. Sounds like a diesel for 1 or 2 min. Also getting a slip in drive train when cold and accelerating around corners. Thanks for sites.

I have a 2001 Silverado 3500 dump with a 6.0L. I have had the ticking noise since day one. Have been to the dealer twice. This is a big problem that they are denying. If you do hear it, go to the dealer and at least log that you have a complaint. This is what I was told. Basically they say the "slap" does not cause excess wear and doesnt hurt performance, deal with it. Engine experts say otherwise.

Our 8.1 502 hasnt had troubles but we did trade in a 6.0 that sounded loud but they took it back on full retail trade which was nice.
