I have a 2004 gmc 3500 4X4. Its a bacic work truck (no power windows, locks, carpet). I see other 3500's that are 3500hd. Does anyone know what the difference is?

    3500HD of the past was a 15K GVW C+C.

3500HD of current model is just a 3500....nothing new. Nothing different. Just a name.

Nothing like the differences between the 2500 and 2500HD of the past.

I think the 3500HD Chevy has a 13,000lb gvw (cab and chassis) if your talking about the old 3500HD then that is a 1.5 ton 15,000lb gvw truck Chevy don't make them anymore.

The brakes on the new 3500HD might be marginally bigger if they are using 17 inch wheels.

The newer trucks have such a high curb weight now with all the added emmisions crap etc you end up with less payload than a older model truck.

GM would sell gazillions of 3500HD's today.

Make them 15K -19K, normal pickup cab, 4x4, just like Ford and Dodge.

I just don't care for the van body 4500 and 5500's.

The old 3500HD would have been perfect had they offered 4x4.

I know on my truck 2500HD vs the 2500 a few differences are the bigger brakes, heavier frame (3500), basically the HD just mean everything is a little bigger. I would assume that this would be the same to the 3500HD vs 3500.
