Go thick with crusher run or use gravel first?

If a driveway needs to be built up 5 or 6 inches should I go the first 3 with gravel then crusher run stone or can I just stone the full depth without issue? Around here screened gravel is basically the same price as stone so Id rather just save a step. But for a steep hill where I want the stuff to hold and flow runoff into the ditches Im not sure what would be best.

Use bigger material on the bottom ( I use 2" crusher run limestone for base) then 3/4" crusher run for the last few inches.

I use ballist screenings mix or modified ballist. Spreads great if you have lighter machine or rubber tracks.
