Ok, so I'm looking to hire a fulltime certified horticulturist, with there own truck. They would drive around as a one man team doing small gardening tasks, planting some bushes, pruning, general gardening... He would have my equipment with him in his truck. Blower/weedeater/rake/bags/pruning stuff/ gasoline.

    I'm thinking 12.50 per hour plus his mileage...37.5 cents/mile,
an average work week consisting of 250 miles.

    Anyone think this sounds right?

Should he be paid differently because he uses his vehicle?

    Just wonderin...

My "uncertified" lawn cutters make more than that an hour. I suppose region may have something to do with it, but I don't think that would get anyone too good around here. Maybe it's different by you.

You never know though, sometimes you get what you ask for. Maybe run an ad and see what kind of response you get with your offer.

One of my friends is a cert. hort. and makes 15.95 hr at a local nursery and doesn't tear up her vehicle either.
I would say if you want one to stay quite a while pay them 15.00 and buy a nice looking junker to have them drive.
Charge the extra 10 an hour to pay for the extra.
They are Certified. More people will be willing to go with it if they have a cert instead of nothing.
