I just got done rebuilding my engine (kohler ch20s-64670) and put it back together. Started and idled great but a little fuel made it sound like a 454 lol. Took it back apart and the governor gear was cracked. My question is about the regulating pin. Does it fit in between the flyweights on the gear? My understanding is you put the locking tab on first, then the gear will snap into a groove, then the pin will go in between the flyweights. Is this correct?

Sounds right to me, And I know how the gear got cracked. When you slid the pan on the gear didn't mesh with the cam.

Slide the pan on leaving a crack then you can fish a small screw driver in and rotate the gear till it meshes with the cam then slide the pan the rest of the way on.
