I'm going to be purchasing a 48" grandstand very soon. Need some advise on which one to buy the 19 or 23 hp unit. Considerations:

Do a lot of mulching in the fall-

Leaning towards the 23hp unit as I have a rule: might as well go with the best you can get.....

Go 23 if you are going to mulch. 19 would be fine if side discharging all the time

I'll 2nd that if mulching go 23hp. The other thing I've noticed is that our mowers with the higher hp per cut size seem to go farther(more hrs) before they need engine replacement.

IMO propane is the way to go (if you have a LP supplier locally). The price is alot more stable here, you can get away with 100 hr oil changes, and if you carry an extra tank along not have to worry about running low.
I grew up on a farm, where we had a 1953 WD allis chalmers tractor that ran on propane since new, left the farm scene in 1982 and my uncle had it, passed it on to his son on that farm and today it sits in my shed, motor only had tune ups and oil changes, 7852.8 hrs, still purs like a kitten even though just about every other part on that tractor was replaced. Thats why I like propane, nuff said
