My brother in law and his new wife just built a house outside Nashville, and for their wedding I said I would install a lawn for them. I really don't want to spend the $ for sod, so my question is what grass type grows down there? I am from OH, and don't travel alot so any help is welcome.

Yup, fescue. We also get some that have bermuda, and one of our customers has zoysia, but any warm-season grasses over here are a royal pain. Definitely go with the fescue.

    Where outside of Nashville?

My yard is a turfl type tall fescue. Looks phenominal.
