We have seen more and more of this in our lawns in Wisconsin. Can anyone give me its name? Grows low to ground, does not stand tall. Light green. Likes low spots where water sits in Spring. It pulls up in strings

Ill guess its colonial bentgrass. A weed in your Kentucky Bluegrass and my P. Ryegrass lawns. If it comes up in strings its not Poa Annua (annual bluegrass weed) :waving:

    Bentgrass or Poa trivialis.

Get a sample, sit down at computer with a magnifying glass, and go to Turfgrass ID Key. You can ID any grass there by yourself. Often pictures are not enough for an accurate ID.

Jim, thanks. I will have to get a magnifying glass. I got the turf grass key, but the eyes are not what they should be. I tried to work the key with a few grasses that I new what they were, and it came out wrong. Hair no hair, kind of tuff to do till you have done it allot. Some of these guys have looked at this stuff allot longer than I have, and it always helps to see someone else thinks the same as you.
