Grimmer Schmidt 185DR compressor/john deere for blow outs

    how much did you get it for? what year? just curious…

    Yes, I will upload some pics tomorrow. I knew diesels had glow plugs, but there is no key just two switches and a start button. I got it for 1000.00 and I'm not sure of the year model. I never even considered opening an air outlet to start it.

    yeah, now that i think about it i think a few of the compressors had a toggle switch that you physically had to hold up or down to warm the glow plugs, then you flip the other to the on position or vice versa, then you are ready to start the compressor…there is definitely a proper way to start a diesel compressor, not insulting your intelligence on diesels, every machine is different

    1000 is a good deal if it's half decent compressor

    Trust me your not insulting me, I know very little about diesel motors. That why I was trying to gather as much info as possible since I have no manual.

    Yea the machine is in really good condition, and looks like it has been well taken care of.

    this is my first year of actually owning a compressor, so i'm not that far ahead of you…i've learned a lot with it tho, it's not perfect by any means, but for a 1985 it's a damn good machine…every now and then it won't pressure up, usually when you turn it on the engine rev's up really high to get to 100 or so PSI, then once it's pressurized it idles back down…sometimes it will just turn on, engine side is running fine, but the compressor side won't pressure up, so it just stays at idle…i recently figured out how to manually pressure it up by messing with it the other day…other than that it just had a clogged fuel filter…after figuring out these issues i'm very happy with it, gotta figure out the small oil leak it has tho, drives me nuts leaving a small oil spot on customers properties

    as jbell said , empty the air then preheat the glow plugs.

    So here is the picture of the instrument panel and a picture of what I think may be the prime? please correct me if I'm wrong. Also I was able to start it today, not to sure how I did it. I'm assuming when the far left switch is on, it means the glow plugs are warming up? if so how long do I let them warm up?

    For my next question, what is the best way for regulating my pressure for a blow-out? I figure I would keep the psi around 40-50..

    Some compressors are not happy if they aren't running at high pressure, so the safe thing to do can be to add your own PRV at some point downstream.

    Is this a RPV? Can I add a gauge somehow to know the pressure on the outlet side?
