  1. Is this for real? The website says, based on limited studies, borax works as well as commonly used herbicides.

GROUND IVY - CONTROL WITH BORAX

Recipe for Borax control of ground ivy on bluegrass
(Caution: apply over recommended area to avoid toxicity symptoms)

    To treat 1,000 sq. feet:

10 oz. Twenty Mule Team Borax
dissolve in 4 oz. warm water
then dilute in 2.5 gal. water

Yet another option is to use a borax solution. It has been found through research that ground ivy is highly sensitive to the element boron found in common borax soap, while bluegrass is very tolerant of boron. Dissolve 3 teaspoons of common borax into a small quantity (about 3 cups) of very hot, near boiling water. Then, bring the entire mixture up to a gallon of water. Dissolving the borax first in the hot water is simply easier than trying to dissolve borax in a gallon of cold water. Apply the borax solution directly on the ground ivy, thoroughly wetting the foliage. Give it a few weeks and this should begin to kill the ground ivy.

Ongoing research at Purdue has shown good ground ivy control with triclopyr. It is AI in Turflon, and component AI in such brands as Confront, Momentum, Millennium Ultra.

About 8-10 years ago Turflon D, and ester D and triclopyr combo, was a terrific product. It blasted all the ground ivy I had been fighting for years. Was the best all around product at the time. If you would use triclopyr at proper time in ground ivy growth, you should have good results.

BTW, does Borax have EPA registration and label directions for ground ivy control? Research discussion is not a legal basis for a licensed applicator to use a product as a herbicide.
