I just bought this used Stihl hs80 hedge trimmer. Now I'm having to keep the tank full in order to keep it running. What would cause this issue? I have already cleaned the carb completely, check the spark arestor and changed the coil on this machine.

Just a guess from the 4 stroke joke, Sounds like you got your fuel lines back on the carb backwards. The return is the short hose in the tank and the fuel pick-up is the long one, I've also seen the pick-up line rot and break in half inside the tank.

Which line goes to the primer bulb the long one or the short one? I have the longer line going to the furthest connection point and the shortest line barely reaches the the other.
